Students at School No. 4 participate in a balanced literacy program driven by the Common Core Standards adopted by New York State. Students read and write within a variety of genres including:
- Narratives
- Procedural
- Poetry
- Biography
- Fairy Tales
- Persuasive
- Informational
Assessments
Students in Grades 1 and 2 participate in the Terra Nova Assessments
Students in Grades 3-6 participate in RCSD Benchmark and New York State Assessments
Students in Kindergarten through 6th grade are assessed using the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA).
